Ingrown Nails & Nail Surgery

Ingrown nails (onychocryptosis) can be a painful condition where a spike or edge of the nail can irritate and/or pierce the skin and cause infection. Common causes include:

  • Improper cutting technique
  • Nail shape and/or thickness
  • Trauma
  • Ill-fitting footwear

Dependant on the cause of your ingrown nail, treatment may include the surgical removal of the offending nail section, or conservatively where you may be required to attend a number of appointments as a long term treatment option.

If you require nail surgery it is performed under local anaesthetic, does not require stitches, post-op pain is usually minimal and most people can return to normal (light) activities within a few days.

If you think you may need nail surgery and would like to know more information please call and talk to one of our staff to discuss your options.
